Katheryn Graham and Shawna Rosher
By Kevin Devlin

Cheerleading buddies are inseparable, as they enjoy life in Southie, and "hanging out with their friends."

If you go down to the McCarthy-Rosher Memorial Park to watch a baseball or football game, you see them together. If you go up to the Stretch Walsh or the Gatey gym to watch a hoop game, you see them together. They are inseparable, gal pals that enjoy each other's friendship, loyalty and laughter. They are Katheryn Graham and Shawna Rosher.

Katheryn, 13, is in the eighth grade at the Murphy School in Dorchester. Her favorite subject is English but she isn't too keen on her math studies. However, she is doing well in school.

Katheryn is a cheerleader for the South Boston Pop Warner Football League. She was on the "E" squad and is now on the talent-laden "B" team. Her favorite professional athlete is Red Sox outfielder Johnny Damon, her favorite star is Johnny Depp (mine too), and she loves watching "American Idol."

Katheryn spends her leisure time doing what most youngsters do.

"I love to watch television," she said. "I also like to eat and hang out with my friends."

Shawna, 13, is also an eighth-grader and attends the Gavin Middle School in South Boston. She loves math class but can't seem to focus on her history chores, but nevertheless she is an Honor Roll student, and has been so for the past three years.

"I get on the Honor Roll all the time," said Shawna. "I really enjoy school."

Shawna is also a cheerleader in Southie. She was on "D" team and is now on the "B" team. She also enjoys playing basketball, and has been involved in the Boston Neighborhood Basketball League (BNBL) in the 13 and under girls' division, at the Stretch Walsh Center, for the past three summers.

Shawna is crazy about Brad Pitt, likes Patriots Quarterback Tom Brady, and watches "Friends" every chances she gets. She also likes "sleepovers, going on the computer, and (what else, you guessed it,) hanging out with friends."

Someday Katheryn would like to be a kindergarten teacher. Shawna really isn't sure what she wants to do in life. But not to worry, for both of them have plenty of time to just enjoy their youthful lives right now.

Adulthood, working, and the real world can wait until later, much later.
