For the second consecutive season, the Iron Workers Local #7 reached the finals of the South Boston Minor League, and this season came home with a victory.
Madison Connolly led the game off with a walk, followed by singles from Matthew Kerrigan, Joisi Vizcaino, and Alex Sobchuck, to jump to an early 3-0 lead. Bailey’s scored two runs in the bottom of the inning to close the gap, 3-2.
Matt Kerrigan’s awesome two-run RBI double opened the floodgates in the third inning, as the Iron Workers took a commanding 9-2 lead.
Daron Broadway's home run in the fourth inning cut the deficit to 9-4, but time eventually would run out on Timmy Steadman’s squad.
“Both teams had a tremendous season”, said Billy Collins. “Joisi Vizcaino pitched the whole game and did a great job. Baileys (11-2) and the Ironworkers (13-0) both had tremendous seasons, and both teams were missing key players in the championship tilt due to vacations. And, the managers and coaches were great all season long.”
