SB U14 Girls Fight for Spot as Top Seed
By Kaitlyn O'Brien

Putting South Boston on the board first was Kaila Connolly. She came up with a beauty of a goal to put Southie up 1-0. A few plays later, Hanover came up strong and was able to score, knotting it at 1-1. South Boston continued to play hard, doing whatever it took to control the game. With tension and competition between the two teams the game could go in any direction. With some great passes, hard work, and some lucky bounces the puck was going Southie’s way.  The Southie girls were getting great shots on net and putting pressure in Hanover`s end. Southie was handed many chances but Hanover`s goalie continued making unbelievable saves. Coming through traffic, Kaila Connolly came up with her 2nd goal of the game making it 2-1. Hanover was concentrating on keeping the puck in South Boston`s end putting pressure on the defense and South Boston`s goalie Susan Cunniff. South Boston`s defense was doing a great job and Susan was making some great saves. With a lucky bounce Hanover managed to sneak the puck by Susan Cunniff  and tying it again at 2-2. The competition was fierce throughout the entire game, with the puck getting tossed around both ends. Both teams had opportunities to score, but with great saves by both goalies it became a nail-biter.

The puck was tossed out too quickly for Hanover defense to take control, and Kaity O`Brien picked the puck up on a breakaway and put it away making the game 3-2. While the puck was floating around Hanover`s end a rocket from the point and a deflection off Hanover`s defense left the puck right out front for Maura Conroy to score making it a 4-2 game. With not much time left Hanover was trying hard to come up with the 2 goals to tie the score, but they were repeatedly denied by Southie`s defense and Southie`s goalie Susan Cunniff.

With a huge competitive battle by both teams only the best would win. South Boston went home with a huge win and a guaranteed a spot in the playoffs.

It was an exciting and winning season for the South Boston Girls U14 team, and the whole team is looking forward to the playoffs.

Hopefully, the Southie girls will go all the way in the playoffs.

Special thanks to coaches Danny Conroy, Scotty Lampron, and Chris Connolly.
