     Each year, the South Boston Citizens’ Association sponsors poster and essay contests, which are open to the students of South Boston.  These are judged by a panel of local artists, writers, and community activists.  Jack Canavan, Kevin Delehanty, and Rick Winterson served as the judges in the Essay and Poster Competitions in 2006.

     The poster competition results were as follws:

     First place          Tony Maiullari, Boston Collegiate Charter School

     Second place      Jacky Higgins, Gate of Heaven School

     Third place         Claire Gordon

     The winning Grades 5 through 8 essayists were:

     First place          Matthew Beggan, Gate of Heaven School

     Second place      James Donovan

     Third place         Nicholas Rotondo, Gatey/St. Brigid School

     Honorable Mentions went to Daniel Cardinale and Kristen Miller

     Among Grades 9 through 12, the top essayists were:

     First place          Kim Maloney, Our Lady of Nazareth

     Second place      Ashley Murphy, Fontbonne

     Third place         Erin Maiullari, Boston Collegiate Charter School

     An Honorable Mention went to Lauree Maiullari.

     We congratulate all who participated.  The quality of the submissions was excellent.
