|Gate of Heaven Hall Sale Finalized
On February 28, Gate of Heaven Parish finalized the sale of its Hall to the South Boston Neighborhood House. This property was sold so that the parish would have the needed funds to complete the $6 million repair and restoration of Gate of Heaven Church.
The South Boston Neighborhood House is a community-based agency that provides services to youth and the elderly and they proposed to purchase the property because they need a larger facility to expand their programming efforts.
The South Boston Neighborhood House plans major renovations on the building. Following these renovations, they have graciously offered to allow both the Gate of Heaven School and the Gate of Heaven CYO to continue to use the gym facility for the next ten years at no cost. They plan to keep the gym because it will also be used for their youth programs. The consensus of the Gate of Heaven Parish Pastoral Council and Finance Council was to accept the South Boston Neighborhood House’s bid for the property.
At a recent meeting to discuss our working relationship with the South Boston Neighborhood House, Kevin Lally, Director of the Gate of Heaven CYO Basketball Program, Father Casey, and Brian Van Dorpe, Director of the South Boston Neighborhood House, talked positively about the future and our collaboration.
“We are looking forward to collaborating with the South Boston Neighborhood House so that the youth of our parish can continue with their physical education and with the CYO Basketball Program,” said Father Casey. “The youth of our parish are always a priority-and the basketball program is of utmost importance to me, the parish council, and the parishioners of Gate of Heaven Parish. We want this program to survive-and continue to be a great outreach to our youth. We thank all the adults who gave and continue to give their time and talent over the years.”
