City Councilor Jim Kelly continues to make progress in his winning battle against cancer. He underwent major surgery for brain cancer late in November at Brigham & Women’s Hospital. On December 2, well in advance of anyone’s expectations, Jim returned home, where he is presently resting and recuperating.
His son, Jamie, was kind enough to call us with an update to the press release he sent out on December 8. Jim’s ongoing treatments will begin shortly, as soon as he’s strong enough to begin them. The treatments haven’t been completely determined yet, but will be similar to those he received during his bout with colon cancer in 2003.
According to Jamie, “My father hasn’t missed a beat; he’s very much the guy he was … he is growing stronger every day, and is fully aware of the seriousness of his condition. He understands that he has a fight on his hands … he is in extremely good spirits, active, following City Council proceedings as they occur, and is in constant contact with his family and office …”
Jamie asks that friends and well-wishers do not call or visit until notified that it’s all right to do so. Jim needs rest and plenty of time to complete his recuperation.
On the other hand, cards and letters are most welcome. Jim is fully aware of the support and prayers from his loyal constituents, and his family appreciates the kind thoughts that have been sent to him. In the meantime, Jim is looking forward to the New Year, and is eagerly anticipating his upcoming inauguration for a new term as South Boston’s City Councilor
