Safety in the Workplace
By Kevin Devlin
Crime doesn't stay away from your workplace, so here are some tips that could be useful.

     * Never compromise your safety or the security or others for convenience.
     * So, never prop open any doors.
     * Wear your company identification badge if they supply them, and if they don't, suggest they start

using them for safety and security reasons.
     * Be careful when entering staff only areas and don't allow any strangers or visitors into these areas.
     * Keep your wallet, keys, and other valuables with you at all times, or locked in a drawer or cabinet.
     * Always let someone know where you will be, whether it's coming in late, working late, going to the

photocopier or mail room, going out to a meeting or for lunch.
     * Immediately report any suspicious activity or suspicious people to your supervisor and then

        immediately to the local police.
     * Don't walk into elevators with people who look out of place or behave in a strange, threatening

        and/or suspicious manner.
     * Try not to work late alone.
     * Create a buddy system for walking to parking lots or to public transportation.
     * When coming or leaving work, always be aware of your environment. Look around and be cognizant

        of your surroundings. Be Aware.
     * When you approach your car, have your key ready. Check the floor, as well as the front and back

seats before getting into your vehicle. Lock your car as soon as you get in it and before you buckle

        up or start it.
     * Be careful, aware, and steadfast.
