"Indulge" to Open by Christmas
By Rick Winterson

Anne Marie Ianelli, who recently changed her surname from Bolstad, is a lifelong South Boston resident. As many South Bostonians do, she has a dream.

Her childhood was spent on G and Fifth Streets. She graduated from Monsignor Ryan Memorial High School, which has now been transformed into the Harbor Academy. Currently, Anne Marie lives on Mercer Street.

After graduating from M.R.M., Anne Marie went to work in the corporate financial world for a total of 15 years. At both Fidelity Investments and Arthur Andersen, she worked in internal customer service. While she was at John Hancock, she rose to become the Executive Assistant to the Vice President of Audits.

But Anne Marie still kept that dream in the back of her mind.

In 2000, she began going to school at nights. She attended the prestigious Catherine Hinds Institute of Aesthetics , which still sets the benchmark for training professionals in all kinds of personal care. Anne Marie's desire for professional status herself, coupled with an intense love of the field, led her to enroll at Catherine Hinds full time, while working at Hancock on a part-time basis.

Her accomplishments at school got Anne Marie an offer of a working internship from Catherine Hinds in 2001. Hinds wanted to open a spa in upstate New York - in the town of Clayton, which borders the Thousand Islands resort area. That's the district where she grew up - Hinds' hometown is Watertown, N.Y., better known to Army reservists as the home of Fort Drum.

The internship lasted six months. During that time, Anne Marie developed her entrepreneurial talents within the medical spa background. She returned to Boston a Licensed Aesthetician, (900 hours of training) plus practical work from Hinds. She is a Reiki Master (Reiki is a form of Oriental healing that involves passing one's hands over a patient), and an Aromatherapist as well.

For the next few years, Anne Marie worked at various upscale spas around Boston, but she still had that dream. She wanted her own business, "Where I love what I do, and do what I love. I am creating a space where you can put aside the outside world for a while - where you can indulge your body."

The result is "Indulge", at 637 East Broadway, which will open before the Holiday Season is over.

The services Anne Marie will offer are extensive. As an Aesthetician, she can perform all kinds of advanced skin care, including dealing with many skin problems. This can apply to total body treatments or just facials and hand treatments. The phrase that describes her work is "spa body treatment". Each person's skin is unique in its characteristics and care needs. And remember her skills in aromatherapy and Reiki healing. Packages of her various services are available for purchase.

The UltraSonic Facial, with "DermaSoundPlus", is an example of the skin technology Anne Marie will offer at "Indulge". Low frequency ultrasound loosens and removes surface skin cells, while temporarily "opening up" the skin structure. This gives a complete exfoliation, without the risk of irritation or inflammation of sensitive skin. It also allows antioxidant skin compounds to penetrate deeply, through to the deep layers of the dermis where new skin cells are formed.

At this particular time, Anne Marie is in and out, seeing to the final details of her opening day. However, she is selling gift certificates that are redeemable later this month or in the New Year. Call her before stopping by, and leave a message. She'll make sure you get your gift certificate in time, including dropping it by your home herself. The phone number is (617)307-6345 - leave a message.

As for Anne Marie's personal interests, right now she's "fulfilling a dream", which is keeping her busy 24/7. When she gets a few moments of downtime, she likes to read and travel. Perhaps she'll be able to do that later in 2006. In the meantime, you'll find Anne Marie Iannelli at "Indulge", 637 East Broadway.
