“…As soon as I moved here, I fell in love with Southie.”
She’s young, beautiful, energetic, and loves living here in South Boston. Her name is Andrea Murphy. Andrea, 25, who hails from Billerica, Massachusetts, is the daughter of Peter and Marie Murphy. Her father is the owner of J&P Tree Service and her mother works at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington. She also has an older brother Michael.
Andrea attended Billerica High School where she played on the soccer and lacrosse teams for three seasons. She graduated in 2004 and subsequently studied business management at Curry College in Milton. Andrea graduated in 2008 and moved to Brighton. She was hired as a financial analyst at Partner’s Health Care in Brookline where she oversees finances for eighteen departments.
Although Andrea lived in Brighton right after graduation, she really didn’t like it there because she felt that it was too far from Downtown Boston. She also didn’t have any friends living in the immediate area, because they were all moving into South Boston. Andrea worked as a waitress at the Beer Garden during the summer of ’08, got her first glimpse of South Boston, and decided to move into the neighborhood.
“I heard good things about South Boston from people and friends… that it was a fun and safe place in which to live,” said Andrea. “I was hesitant at first because I wanted to move even closer to downtown Boston than Southie was. But, as soon as I moved here, I fell in love with Southie. I love walking around Castle Island and along the beaches. I love the Saint Patrick’s Day parade in March, and love the friendly and partying atmosphere on Broadway. I am having a lot of fun… and I am truly enjoying myself.”
In her spare time, Andrea works out at the Bene-Fitness gym in Brookline where she goes after work. She also likes golfing in the summertime with her cousin Christine. She is currently hitting the books again, preparing for the rigorous G-MAT Exam in the hopes of attending a nearby college so they she may be able to attain a master’s degree in business management.
Andrea personifies the new look of South Boston. She is a young, intelligent, person, who wants to succeed in life. Upon graduation from college, she was looking for a safe and wonderful place in which to live. And, it didn’t take her long to discover the jewel that is South Boston.
