SBNH Regrets Having to Sell Gate of Heaven Parish Hall

It is with deep regret that we, the Board of Directors and staff of the South Boston Neighborhood House, inform you, our neighbors and fellow citizens of South Boston, that it has become necessary for our agency to begin the process of selling the Gate of Heaven Parish Hall property.

The current economic climate, our inability to qualify for a tax credit, an increase in construction costs and a lack of philanthropic resources have combined in a “perfect storm” of circumstances that force us to make this decision. The cost of completing the project is simply beyond our capacity.  We will do our utmost to ensure that whoever purchases the property will be sensitive to the concerns of the community.

As we have for over 100 years, the South Boston Neighborhood House will continue to provide quality services.  All of our current programming will remain exactly as it is without interruption.

Our elected officials, Senator John Hart, Representative Brian Wallace, City Councilor Bill Linehan and City Councilor Michael Flaherty as well as Mayor Thomas Menino have been informed and have pledged their support.

We are aware that this is likely as disappointing to you as it is to us.  We thank you in advance for your understanding and ask for your help as we go forward.

Sincerely,

Kevin P. Martin, Sr., President, Board of Directors

Barbara McDonough Macdonald, Executive Director
